STEWARDING INFORMATION

The Hall has to be cleared of competitors and public before the judges start judging.  The only people allowed in the Hall once judging has commenced are the Prize Card Secretaries and Stewards.

Some of you have been stewarding for years and know exactly what to do, even so please check the list below and make sure you follow the procedure as it makes a huge difference to the smooth running of the Show.  Please remember to collect and display the prize cards and to turn over the entry cards after the judging.

  1. Check the position of the classes you are stewarding.

  2. Make sure that entry cards and exhibits do not have names showing.

  3. Introduce yourself to your judge and check that they have everything they need.

  4. The steward does not talk to the judge unless the judge wishes to speak to them.  The steward must never put forward their own preferences or opinions.

  5. When the judge has completed each class and indicated there decision the steward then opens the exhibitors labels and takes note of the name and prize in the note book provided.

  6. Please take care when entering names and initials in note book as these are used by Prize Card Secretaries to calculate points for section cups and prizemoney.

  7. If there are no entries in a class write “no entry” in the note book

  8. Take the completed pages from  the note books to the prize card secretaries in batches of about 5.  Do not keep all slips until the judge has finished as this holds up proceedings.

  9. Collect the prize cards when they have been written out and make sure they are put on the correct entries.

  10. If class winners are in competition for overall section cups or prizes make sure names are not showing until judges have made their decision.

  11. Take special prize decisions to secretaries and collect cards.

  12. Place cards on entries and turn over entry cards to show names

  13. If you have any queries ask Show Secretary.
